SD Pheasant Limits May Increase
South Dakota state wildlife officials decide next week whether to raise South Dakota's current 3 bird daily pheasant bag limit to 5 cock pheasants daily. Under the proposal, the current 15 bird pheasant possession limit would increase to 25 male pheasants. The Game, Fish and Parks Commission will discuss the matter at its meeting in Pierre December 3 through 4, 2009.
The proposal is being considered because of the delayed harvest of crops this fall due to wet weather. The large amount of standing crops has provided excellent cover for birds. If the emergency rule is adopted, it would take effect Saturday, December 5, and remain in place until the pheasant season ends next January 3, 2010. We will update the blog as soon as a decision is made - so check back soon!

Great first day of pheasant hunting!
I just talked to Jim and he reports a great first day of pheasant hunting on the ranch. Weather was sunny and 60 degrees making for a very comfortable day in the field. Birds are starting to bunch up early for the winter with many bunches numbering in the several hundreds and although SD State Game Fish and Parks reported SD pheasant numbers lower than last year, Jim did not experience that today. He’s reporting abundant wild pheasant numbers appearing higher than last year. The group limited out in 2.5 hours and were very excited to be hunting wild SD pheasants again!

Welcome to our new website!
Welcome to our website! Periodically we will update you with ranch happenings, events and our insights regarding our local wildlife habitat. Hunting season is fast approaching so be prepared for a great year. Bird, deer and general wildlife populations look very strong!
A number of deer blinds and stands are setup and ready for our first deer season which is only 10 days away. This summer's moisture has helped jump start new habitat and create excellent habitat for this fall and winter. There will be plenty of cover!
I look forward to seeing you!
Jim
